Wat is een amendement?

Leden van het Europees Parlement mogen niet zelf nieuwe wetten voorstellen, maar kunnen wel wetsvoorstellen van de Europese Commissie of initiatiefrapporten en resoluties van het Europees Parlement aanpassen. Een voorstel voor een aanpassing heet een amendement. Vervolgens wordt daarover gestemd, en als een meerderheid van het Europees Parlement vóór stemt wordt het amendement aangenomen.
