Text proposed by the Commission

The placing on the market of seal products shall be allowed only where the seal products result from hunts conducted by Inuit and other indigenous communities, provided that the following conditions are all satisfied:

Amendment

The placing on the market of seal products shall not be allowed.

Justification

There should be no exception to the EU seal regime; the prohibition should apply to all natural and legal persons equally. This makes the legislation WTO-compliant and represents the animal welfare concerns in the best possible way.
