Bb. whereas the region's waters are threatened by various sources of pollution, including untreated waste and litter, eutrophication from agricultural run-off and fish farms, and whereas, given that environmental protection is part of the EU strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian region, it is of the utmost importance to understand that economic development can only be conceived in the context of environmental sustainability;
